Obligatory Udder Shots 2010

Yes, it is that time of year when shepherds are fascinated with bags.

Not just any old bag, mind you.  We are drawn to a pregnant ewe’s udder like a moth to the flame.  Shepherd’s know through experience that the bag is like a crystal ball, foretelling the imminent arrival of lambs.  We mentally compare the size and fullness with what we remember from past years.  Some of us even compare photos taken in previous years.  A bag that starts out quite small – the size of two small oranges – can grow to resemble a large melon in a matter of days.  Lambs should be coming any time now!

So here they are.  Bag shots.

And finally, Jellybean and babies are doing great!

Shetland Jellybean with white ewe lamb Phyllis and ram lamb Curly. The lambs are learning how to eat hay. They can't actually eat it for a few more weeks but mouthing it helps to kick-start the rumen.
